Thinking Blogger

To my surprise, Jen over at Did You Ever Get the Feeling has awarded me the Thinking Blogger Award. This came as a bit of a surprise, and may be a surprise to you as well considering that it was a month ago and I'm just now getting around to realizing what it's about...

Thank to Jen, and I'm going to pass along my nominees, which may be ... a little different. Here they are:

The Ground Truth In Iraq

This blog is from the Education for Peace in Iraq Center, which has been working on human rights in Iraq since the late 1990s. No politics here -- they're looking for practical policy solutions for how to stabilize Iraq and find the best outcome for the Iraqi people.

Small Wars Journal

I often note interesting things from this blog. Counterinsurgency professionals, these guys are thinking about the same stuff as EPIC, but from the perspective of the military. Discussion boards over there are also well worth reading.

My American Iraq Life

This is the blog of a just turned 23 year old Iraq War veteran, GI Kate. Learn more about the experiences of a young female soldier in Iraq.

A Star in Mosul

Aunt Najma, now in college, has been blogging about the war in Iraq since she was sixteen or so, and has been a daily read of mine most of that time. A little about what life is like on the ground for someone trying to grow up, go to school and have a life in the middle of the chaos of war.

POD Critic

And for a break from war, war, war, there is POD Critic, a new arrival on the scene of reviewing self-published books. POD Critic is a strong advocate for building real quality in the publishing world, and has a lot of thoughtful things to say in that area. If you are interested in publishing, this is a good place to start your thinking. Most importantly, POD Critic doesn't shy back from beating the crap out of authors who publish their work too early when its not ready. Having been guilty of that (and having to live with the less than stellar results) I appreciate that dedication to quality.

So check them out.
