White House opposes military pay increase
Big surprise here -- for the fifth time in as many years, the White House has gone on record opposing a pay increase for the military. Go figure.
The Senate Armed Services committee this year recommended a 3.5% increase, half-a-percent more than the White House asked for in its budget. That half a percent was apparently enough to throw down the gauntlet, as the White House sent back a policy statement opposing the increase and theatening a veto.
