Children of Hurin -- A Not Quite Review

At the moment I’m slogging through the new J.R.R. Tolkien (ehem), The Children of Hurin. I’m reading out of loyalty, because the Lord of the Rings is pretty close to my all-time favorite book. I’ve probably read it fifty times over the last twenty years, and the characters are so beloved that my wife had to veto me naming our son Tom Bombadil (actually that’s not really true, but it sounded good). Learning there were going to be feature length movies was like getting a small rush of heroin. I LOVE the Lord of the Rings.
